Capoeira in Kota Kinabalu?

So some folks saw the previous post about "Technique of the month: Capoeira - Vingativa" & have asked me where can you find a Capoeira class in Kota Kinabalu?

For those that are interested, you can find the "Borneo Capoeira" group at Tanjung Aru 1st Beach. They practice either on Saturdays or Sundays around 5pm.

"ENTER THE DOJO"

I just felt that this should be shared.

There's a new youtube series called "ENTER THE DOJO".

It's comedy about a "psycho" martial art instructor (maybe not a martial artist at all) who... well ... creates his own philosophy about his dojo's martial art and gives his student the false hope & security about his techniques, his wisdom and about their school. Accompanied by quirky supporting actors, this series does in some sense poke fun on certain real life situations of martial art in the real world (especially McDojos).

Training: High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).

Last Friday night at Kinabalu Fighters club, Joanna Lye was introducing us HIIT workout. We had a blast doing the new exercise regime & comparatively this workout is very time efficient: 12 minutes alone will make you panting.

Joanna have written a pretty good simple article for those who want to know what this workout is about, we got her to be our "guest writer" for the day.

Traditional Chinese Herbal & Chiropractor (Likas)

I've been suffering an injured left index finger for a very long time. The pain was caused by bad punching form during 1 of my old boxing classes. Injuries are a common thing in training, you probably get a lot of knee, joint pain, fingers or wrist pain from from grappling or striking class or might even have back problem from bad exercise form. Like it or not, it happens.

Poor man's training: Training with Tires.

Every humble gym or club would probably have gone through the phase of finding a venue & having to DIY their own equipment for training. When I first had a space for my club Kinabalu Fighters in the Sabah Judo Dojo, they had a huge space but no punching bags (duh) it was going to be a problem for me.

Problem was, neither I nor the small group back then couldnt afford a proper punching bag... We turned to a simple alternatives. Tires.

Sitkrumat Ramadan Training Diet.

FightBah found another interesting article about diet during Ramdan from Raja Ahmad Talmiz.

Raja Ahmad is a teacher of the Sitkrumat Muay Thai camp & he is also 1 of our mentor in Muay Thai from West Malaysia. He wrote a short blog post about Sitkrumat camp training diet for their members during Ramadan which I was given permission to share and help translate it in English in point form:

Circuit Training for the Fasting month.

During this fasting month, Muslims break fast around 6:35pm. We need to perform Maghrib prayer before 7:40pm. At around 7:40pm will be our Isyak prayer session, follow by Tarawih. Now depending on individual, some Muslims might perform the "short" Tarawih which ends at about 8:45pm. If they perform the full Tarawih they will end at about 9:30pm. You will then have about another 2-3 hours to perform other business before your sleep

Most gyms do not open that late (or would be closing around those time). I myself understand the feeling of training so hard during the non-fasting season & to find yourself so tired & low stamina after the fasting month. So I started to look for an exercise that can help me maintain my stamina & strength (or get better) while allowing me to do it in a short time as I still need to rest well before the 4:00am Sahur.
