My 1st BJJ competition experience. Part 1.

BJJ Borneo & CORE Fitness hosted the 1st BJJ tournament in Malaysia on the 26th November at the Suria Sabah, T2 area. The event was coined: "Headhunters Challenge: BJJ & Submission Grappling Tournament".

Diet: Vegetable diet for fighters training?

A recent post from "My 3 months fight camp in Thailand" got me interested in this read:

"Something really strange happened to me after training one day.  Instead of the usual protein shake, chicken, egg, and steak lunch I have in attempts to try to feed my body after a hard workout, I went to a vegetarian restaurant instead.  It defied all of my logic, as I thought the reason why I wasn't recovering was because of a lack of protein.

Turns out guys like Jake Shields, Nate, and Nick Diaz may be onto something with their Vegetarian UFC training.  I noticed something strange about my body and mentioned it to Ben, a nutritionist that was training at Phuket Top Team.  I told him that I wasn't tired at all, normally I need to take a nap around this time, and that I felt great.  He said it was because my body didn't need to spend all that energy breaking down the animal protein and instead was able to use that same energy to recover." - Continue read at "My 3 months fight camp in Thailand"

Good news for all Sabahan grapplers, there will be a grappling competition hosted by CORE Fitness & BJJ Borneo at Suria Sabah this coming 26th November 2011.

Poor Man's: Pull ups in the playground

Besides learning the techniques and skills in what ever martial art you do, general fitness is also important. Exercises such as jogging, skip ropes and weights are good to keep your body strong.

While some might complain that they cant afford to go to a gym or worst cant even buy dumbbells for training, this next "Poor Man's" post will introduce you to the simple solution of going to a playground.

Ustaz Nazim, helping Muay Thai in Sabah.

This month we hook up with Ustaz Nazim, a driving force for the Muay Thai movement in Kota Kinabalu Sabah. Ustaz Nazim is a lawyer by profession and has contributed so much to the sports; yet one would ask why would a Ustaz spend so much time, money and effort for the sake of a martial art like Muay Thai?

Today we interview Ustaz Nazim and get to know him better.
