My name is Julian Johan Lee H'ng Abdullah, a Malaysian Chinese Muslim born in the Island of Penang but breed in "The Land Below The Wind", Sabah, Borneo.
I work as a freelance graphic designer / event coordinator & an art lecturer in a local college. Learning martial art is my hobby & I remember my 1st martial art being Shotokan Karate under Sensei Michelle Koh which I took up when I was 11 (it was 1992 then), I stopped at blue belt & only got back to training another martial art at 2008. I currently practice Muay Thai, originally under Tank Head Muay Thai for 9 months, which after my coach went back to the States I then train under an affiliate program with Tomoi Gombak Naga Api in West Malaysia & The Borneo Combat Gym in Labuan Island. As Sabah does not have a proper facility and gym to train Muay Thai kickboxing, I tend to seek out other "Nak Muays" (practitioners of Muay Thai) and try to learn as much as I could.
I had tried a bit of Brazillian Jujitsu under Team BJJ Borneo for 6 months, tried a few classes of CMD system (Crazy Monkey Defense) under Trinity Gym & trained a little bit of boxing under a few coaches. To me, a fighter should not be too 1 dimensional.
As combat sport is considerably new in Sabah, Borneo, I took an interest in exploring other martial arts & learning as much as I can. Be it traditional martial arts like Karate, Silat, Taekwando or the more modernized MMA (Mixed Martial Art). I believe that there isn't a superior art & that with an open mind: every technique taught by any discipline has its application.
This blog documents my experience & encounter with other martial art in the "Land Below The Wind".
