The new video of the upcoming February 2nd fight at ONE FC: Return of Warriors.
What most people do not realise is that AJ Pyro have indeed fought Jian Kai before in a Muaythai match in West Malaysia. Jian Kai won the bout in that striking match.
This time the fighters will meet again but in a MMA format which might prove to be a totally different ball game. This match will depend on a few factors: Will Jian Kai outstrike AJ or can AJ put Jian Kai to the ground and try to sneak a win from there?
Both fighters have strength but in very different dimensions:
Jian Kai is a Muaythai champion & a Sanda fighetr. He almost knocked out Ole Larson in the Martial Combat promotion on the first round. He does however lost various time due to his ground game (and even lost once to Adrian Tham from Sabah who was part of the Borneo Tribal Squad). But that was then, Jian Kai has had many training to improve on that department. There is no doubt Jian Kai would like to keep it on standing and make this a striking match, but who knows if he might surprise us with a new ground game?
AJ Vaa is considerably new in terms of the striking world & might not be as decorated a striker as Kai. In terms of grappling he has won a few silver & bronze medal in the Philipines & Thailand. However in terms of his record, he lost once in DARE FC against Major Overall after being out strike and then submitted. In the recent ONE FC he did surprise everyone after a huge take down on Mitch Chelson but after that was being reversed and later submitted too. While AJ no doubt was submitted but to compare the ground game of Major Overall & Mitch Chelson, to Kai might be too big a gap (both Major & Mitch are accomplished BJJ grapplers in their own right). But since AJ fought Kai and tested the striking power of Kai it would be a safer and smarter strategy to fight Kai on the ground.
AJ has no doubt went to find professional help and partner in the form of Mark Striegl (a 12-0 MMA undefeated fighter & a big name in the Philipine MMA world ). As the saying goes: "Diamond sharpens diamond", we hope that this training with a champ like Mark Striegl will produce for us a new version of AJ.
The only way to see how this fight goes is to catch it live at February 2nd 2013 at Stadium Putra, Kuala Lumpur. Get your tickets now at: http://www.airasiaredtix.com/Events/OneFightingChampionship2013/
