MIRI: It is mission possible for Miri to produce more Wushu and Tang Soo Do champions in both national and international level if more efforts are carried out to tap new talents in the sports.
Assistant Minister of Communication and Sports, Datuk Lee Kim Shin said tournaments for instance, are one of the many platforms to search and identify new potential exponents.
“Wushu and Tang Soo Do are becoming more popular here and we have even witnessed some remarkable achievements accomplished by our exponents during an International Wushu championship which was held in Brunei last month,” Lee said at the closing ceremony of the Miri Inter-school Wushu and Tang Soo Do tournament held at Boulevard Shopping complex here on Sunday night.
On the tournament, Lee said it was a good platform for participants to show their talent and to sharpen their martial-arts skills by learning from fellow competitors.
“Apart from that, martial-arts sports like these allow exponents to build on their disciplines, giving them opportunity to interact with others from different schools, strengthening relationships among races and build team spirit,” Lee added.
The Miri Inter-School Wushu and Tang Soo Do tournament was organised to select best exponents to represent Miri in the upcoming national Tang Soo Do championship in December, and also for the state-level Wushu tournament in Sibu at the end of this month.
Miri’s Taman Tunku Tang Soo Do chairman, Master Tiong Ching Chiong revealed that 40 exponents have been chosen to represent Miri at the state-level Wushu meet in Sibu.
A total of 316 exponents from various secondary and primary schools in Miri took part in the tournament organised by Miri Wushu Association and Miri Taman Tunku Tang Soo Do Association.
