Best MMA team set to host Grappler’s Cup on June 29

The best mixed martial arts gym in the country is sponsoring anew the 10th Grappler’s Cup on June 29 in a bid to scout future MMA fighters from Baguio.
Team Lakay announced Thursday that amateur and professional MMA fighters can join the Grappler’s Cup set at the University of the Cordilleras gymnasium, which starts at 9 a.m.
Registration fee per participant was pegged at P250.
International MMA fighters and reigning Universal Reality Combat Championship champions Eduard Folayang, Kevin Belingon, and Honorio Banario are expected to join bemedalled Team Lakay Coach Mark Sangiao in the event.
The grappling competition will be conducted under the single elimination or knock out system.
In the past, each bout consisted of five minutes one round (running time base). A bout is won by the result of the judges’ score cards. In case of a draw or a tie, an additional three minutes will be given.
Three months ago, Baguio-based wushu fighters dominated the 9th Grapplers’ Cup winning seven of the 11 gold medals.
All the four gold medals in the senior’s division were salvaged by Baguio-based players with Kevin Vince Loman of Team Lakay Central gym winning the gold in the 51-57 kg while Amado Benito of UC Wushu settled for silver with Paul John Ednalaga of Lakay San Fernando and Jerome Wanawan of UC Wushu winning bronze medals.
Another Lakay central figher, Tristan Rebuyaco, won the gold in his final match against Harold Banario of UC wushu in the 58-64 kg. category Duclan Apil and Delfin Nawen both won bronze in the same category.
