CASH Kuching: Martial Arts Display to showcase multi-ethnic unity

KUCHING: In conjunction with Kuching Festival 2012, the CASH Martial Arts Display will be held at the Hockey Stadium, Jalan Padungan, here, tomorrow night.

In the true spirit of 1Malaysia, the multi-ethnic display promises to be a fun-filled and colourful event and members of the public are welcome to witness its staging.

Some 1,400 people are expected to participate in the event, said chairman of the Organising Committee, Abdul Baderi Sahmat, who is also a councillor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

He urged the public to come to the event early at 6:30pm.

“Assistant Minister of Public Health Dr Jerip Susil will be our guest-of-honour and he is expected to officiate at the event’s opening at 8:10pm.

“This will be followed by the presentation of certificates, announcement of achievement for Wushu, Lion and Dragon Federation of Sarawak, Taekwondo Association and Muay Thai and the introduction of participating groups to Dr Jerip,” Baderi said at a press conference in MBKS Building, here, Wednesday afternoon.

He said the display provided an avenue for various martial groups in the city to display their arts to attract new members as well as to promote healthy activities to the city folks.

Each martial art group will be given some time frame to perform.

The performance by Taichi Qigong Shibashi will be around 9:10pm.Others include the Sarawak Taekwondo Association, Wushu, Lion and Dragon Dance Federation of Sarawak, Rumpun Silat Sarawak, Muay Thai, Aikido and Silambam,” said Baderi, who added that Sekolah Seni Kuching would also perform at the beginning and end of the event.

Also present were representatives of the martial art associations, including Tay Thian Min of Taiji Qigong Shibashi, James Ting Ing Seek of Wushu Association, Hj Sulaiman of Muay Thai, Irene John Davis of Silambam and Mohd Fadillah of Aikido Iwama Ryu
