Sabah Karate wins 3 Gold, 3 Silver & 8 Bronze!!!

Sabah exponents did reasonably well at the 3rd Silent Night Asia Cup Karate Championship after returning home with 3 Gold, 3 Silver & 8 Bronze medals.




The three-day championship held in the national capital saw Sabah bag the gold medals through Hazwan Nafeez Iskhandar, Mohd Azreen Ag Hashim & Abd Mailk, Reginald Alexander & Fernylia Japyus contributed the silver medals.

Leong Tze Ming, Deidre Aorille David, Ryana Chong Hui Yeen, Nurhazerah Abd Malek, Nur Syafida Arifin, Arni Nurfatin and Nur Shyalira Ayu Zakaria won bronze medals.

Sabah Karate Association Secretary Julian Chin said Hazwan won his medal in the senior individual kata while Mohd Azreen won kumite -75kg gold & Callista clinched hers in junior female kumite -48kg category.

Ahmad had to settle for silver medal after losing the senior kumite -84kg category final bout while Fernylia was facing the same fate after losing the gold medal fight in the senior kumite -68kg category.

reginald won his silver in the junior individual kata event.

Leong had to settle for bronze in the senior kumite -67kg categoy and the same goes to Deidre, who claimed her bronze in the senior individual kata.

Ryana bagged two bronze medals after finishing third in the junior individual kata and was joint bronze medallist with teammate Deidre in the senior individual kata.

Nurhazerah won her bronze in the junior female kumite -53kg while Nur Syafida in the female senior kumite -55kg category.

Nurul & Arni won theirs in the senior kumite +68kg and junior female kumite -59kg category respectively.



Sabah Karate Association (SKA) Secretary Julian said he was quite happy with their achievement considering that the tournament also attracted foreign participants.

"It was quite a good outing, as we not only managed to win medals, but it also helped us to make some assessments on our exponents.

So now, we have rectify whatever weakness that we have identified, especially for our SUKMA trainess." said Julian

For the record, at the championship, SKA sent a squad of 21 exponents comprising 12 senior & 11 juniors.

They were led by team manager Francis Kojiun. The two coaches accompanying the team were Danny Fredoline & Mohd Azuansyah Awg Hashim.

Julian, who is also the head coach for the SUKMA squad also made the trip.
